Places to Relax and Rejuvenate

Do you wake up to honking and yelling of neighbors and clanking of utensils? Sometimes life gets to us, and times like these is when we need to pack our bags for that far away land. But if Goa, Shimla, Rajasthan are just cities like where you live, then here are a few places where urbanization has decided not to disturb. And, one of these might just be your perfect place to relax!

1) Dooars, West Bengal: Derived from the word ‘Door’ this place literally looks like a door to tranquility. Well protected by the rivers Teesta and Sankosh, hidden by the Himalayas, it is home to lush green forests and lazy little settlements that you could mingle with and forget about the cement buildings and buzzing of phones. Tea gardens, national parks, historical remains of the Koch dynasty are other things to watch out for here!

2) Nubra Valley, Ladakh: Think clear blue waters in front of you; the wind gently nibbling at your ears; majestic mountains approaching you, as you turn over; it could well be Nubra Valley. The sand dunes, monasteries and bactrian camels are like the icing to the cake. If that’s your idea of recreation, then what are you waiting for? 😀

3) Andretta, Himachal Pradesh: If exploring yourself and finding what you really are through art is your way of becoming a new self, then you ought to be here. Between the mountains and the cold air and the greenery, rests this place which is also called the artists’ colony. The place has attracted many theatre practitioners, artists etc, it also the hub for bird watching, pottery, paragliding and river rafting.

4) Coorg, Karnataka: A road away from the monastery at Kushalnagar is how you get to Coorg. If your idea of relaxing is games, adventure, or just staring at the distant horizon, or reading a book by the waterfalls, this place just might be it!

5) Varkala, Kerala: If beaches in Goa or Mumbai are too noisy but, nevertheless, a beach is your idea of discovering yourself then Varkala is your best bet. Near the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerela, is this little town which is an amalgam of a lot of things- cliffs and beaches and crystal-clear backwaters. This is just the first layer of petal on a rose; you’d be positively surprised when you are there!
